MAY IS NATIONAL WALKING MONTH!

The Trinity Active Travel Hub is supporting National Walking Month throughout May. Why not join the thousands of people across the UK taking to the streets!

Walking is one of the best ways to improve our health and wellbeing, enjoy the great outdoors, connect with nature and spend some time unwinding either alone or with friends.

Walking is simple, free and one of the easiest ways to get more active, manage weight and become healthier. Even regular short walks can reduce the risk of many health conditions, including depression and Type 2 diabetes.

A brisk walk for as little as ten minutes can help build stamina, burn excess calories and make you heart healthier. It also counts towards recommended weekly physical activity targets for adults between 19 and 64 years old.  physical activity guidelines for adults aged 19 to 64.

STAYING MOTIVATED

The easiest way to walk more is to make walking a habit. Walking can be built into many people’s daily routines by :–

  • Walking to the local shops, services or to school;
  • Park & Stride – parking further away from your destination and walking the rest;
  • Setting up a regular walk with a friend;
  • Taking an after-dinner stroll with family or friends.

KEEPING MOTIVATED

  • Listening to music or a podcast works well for some people. Mixing up your walks can add variety and help to build good habits. The Trinity Active Travel Hubs walking and cycling maps can be found here – Maps and leaflets – The Trinity
  • The Living Streets National Walking Month campaign has lots of info and challenges to keep you motivated #Try20 tips (livingstreets.org.uk)
